Disc herniation in the cervical and lumbar spine is a prevalent and debilitating condition that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. This disorder occurs when the gelatinous inner core of an intervertebral disc protrudes through a tear in the fibrous outer layer, leading to compression of adjacent nerves and symptoms such as pain, numbness, and muscle weakness. This research provides a comprehensive review of disc herniation, focusing on its diagnosis and management. Aim: It explores the aetiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnostic modalities, and available treatment options, including conservative therapies and surgical interventions. Furthermore, the pivotal role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as a critical diagnostic tool for identifying the location and severity of disc herniation and assessing its impact on surrounding neural structures is highlighted. This review aims to provide a deeper understanding of this common condition and to offer evidence-based guidelines to enhance clinical diagnosis and management. This study aims to analyze cases of cervical and lumbar disc herniation using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on cases of patients suffering from cervical and lumbar disc herniation, using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) records collected from several medical centres in Libya and Egypt. Results: Notably, the number of female cases examined was higher than that of male cases, and lumber disc herniation was most frequently observed at the L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels. In conclusion, MRI remains the gold-standard imaging modality for accurate diagnosis and assessment of cervical and lumber disc herniation
